Sip on a Glass of Top-of-the-line Wine While Enjoying a Delectable Meal at These Five Award-winning Restaurants
Wine connoisseurs don’t have to go all the way to Napa or Sonoma to try world-class varietals. Five restaurants in and around Beverly Hills recently made the exclusive Wine Enthusiast list, which is distinguished as a roadmap of the 100 best wine restaurants in America. Rather than packing your bags for Northern California, make reservations at one of the following destinations in and around Beverly Hills.
Maude (Beverly Hills)
Chef Curtis Stone’s one-Michelin-starred Maude is an intimate 24-seat restaurant that creates seasonal set menus inspired by four distinct wine regions across the globe. So far, this year’s lineup has celebrated the wines of Sonoma, Western Australia, and (most recently) Champagne, France. The current menu incorporates cheese and wines from Champagne alongside oysters and local Reims ham, seasonal produce, and French cookies. Wine director Andrey Tolmachyov offers three wine pairings (classic, reserve, and grand reserve) alongside the menu, each focused on different vintages sourced in the region. In total, the wine list includes 700 selections from regions around the globe.
Rustic Canyon (Santa Monica)
Chef Jeremy Fox’s California-inspired classic Rustic Canyon serves up vegetable-heavy small plates such as ricotta dumplings, beets and berries, and asparagus paired with yams, cashews, and celery. Wine director Kathryn Coker and sommelier Ferdinando Mucerino focus on wines that complement the seasonal menu. There are currently more than 500 bottles available at the restaurant, as well as 30 wines available by the glass.
Tesse (West Hollywood)
If you’re looking for a buzzy hotspot to take friends and family who are visiting from out of town, Tesse is it. Located on Sunset Boulevard and helmed by chef Raphael Francois and pastry chef Sally Camacho Mueller, the hip French eatery is a see-and-be-seen spot popular with L.A. locals. Pair menu staples like crispy pig ears, roasted duck breast, and cheeses sourced from France with wines chosen by sommelier Jordan Ogron. Diners can choose from more than 30 types of wine by the glass or purchase a bottle from the adjacent wine shop, Boutellier, to try in the restaurant for a $15 corkage fee. French-influenced craft cocktails are also available.
Republique (Mid-City)
n/naka
Wine director Jeffrey Undiarto picks the perfect wines, sakes, and beers by the glass to go along with chef Niki Nakayama’s 13-course kaiseki tasting menu at n/naka. A typical menu might work in calamari, abalone, and Wagyu beef. A vegetarian tasting menu is also available. Undiarto’s wine and sake selections are understated in order to pair nicely with the flavorful fare.
